NAVI MUMBAI: Nhava Sheva police recently arrested a Tamil Nadu woman, Alagu Meenakshi (40), for hatching a conspiracy and kidnapping her husband Vijayarajan Chettiyar (46), a builder who has an office at Seawoods, with the help of seven aides, over a marital dispute.
Madhukar Bhatte, senior inspector at Nhava Sheva, said, “The Chettiyar couple’s divorce plea is pending in court in Tamil Nadu. When Meenakshi learnt that her husband was in a relationship with another woman in Navi Mumbai, she planned to kidnap him.”
The accused, including her aides Nageshwari Asari and Rihana Ansar, have been booked under IPC sections 363, 506 and 34 for kidnapping, criminal intimidation and common intention. On October 27, Meenakshi and her aides arrived in Navi Mumbai in a Mahendra Bolero, Bhatte said. She sent the women, who posed as customers wanting to buy property, to her husband’s office in Seawoods. Chettiyar took the two to his residential project site at Kharkopar in Ulwe. Meanwhile, Meenakshi and five aides followed them in their SUV. At the project site, they bundled him into their SUV and kidnapped him, he said.
Bhatte said that when Vijayarajan did not return to office for the day, staffers got worried and suspecting foul play. His staff lodged a complaint at Nhava Sheva police station the next day. “We immediately kept his mobile phone on surveillance and his last location was found to be in Panjim. Hence, API Sudhir Nikam and two constables were sent to Goa by flight,” he said.
API Sudhir Nikam said, “When we reached Calangute, they slipped away. The mobile location showed movement towards Maharashtra. When we reached Kankavli, we found their SUV at a fuel station.” They held Meenakshi and the five men with her, and rescued the builder. The female aides were arrested in Ulwe. Vashi JMFC court released all accused on bail.
