Meet the seven Indian-Americans on Forbes 2021 rich list – Times of India

WASHINGTON: Seven Indian-Americans figure on the Forbes magazine’s list of 400 wealthiest Americans for 2021, released earlier this week.
CEO of cybersecurity firm Zscaler, Jay Chaudhry, is the richest Indian American with a net worth of $16.3 billion.
Chaudhry, who is at No 45 on the list, founded Zscaler in 2008 and it went public in March 2018, according to Forbes. He and his family own 42% of the Nasdaq-listed firm. Before Zscaler, Chaudhry founded four other tech companies that were all acquired. The first was SecureIT, which Chaudhry and his wife Jyoti founded in 1996. Born in a village in Himachal Pradesh, Chaudhry moved to the US in 1980 to attend graduate school and now lives in Nevada.

The other Indian Americans on the Forbes rich list this year are entrepreneur and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla at number 92; Interglobe Aviation co-founder Rakesh Gangwal at 253; Symphony Technology Group founder and chairman Romesh Wadhwani at number 333; Niraj Shah, co-founder and CEO of Wayfair at 340; Workday CEO and co-founder Aneel Bhusri at 363; and Robinhood co-founder Baiju Bhatt, who at 36, is one of the youngest billionaires, at 389 on the list.
Silicon Valley based Khosla, 66, is an IIT-Delhi alum and the founder of venture capital fund Khosla Ventures; his net worth has been pegged at $8.6 billion by Forbes. He has climbed up on the Forbes list this year from 353 last year. Khosla Ventures invests in clean technology and new technologies such as biomedicine and robotics.
Airlines tycoon Gangwal, with a net worth of $4.4 billion, is an IIT-Kanpur and Wharton alum and owns close to 37% of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of IndiGo airlines. He lives in Miami, Florida.
Bhusri, CEO and co-founder of business software company Workday and resident of San Francisco, has a net worth of $3.1 billion. He also works as an advisory partner at venture capital firm Greylock Partners. Shah, cofounder and CEO of online home goods retailer Wayfair, has a net worth of $2.9 billion. A resident of Boston, he joined the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in 2017.
Founder and chairman, Symphony Technology group, Romesh T. Wadhwani is a Silicon Valley-based serial entrepreneur with a net worth of $3.5 billion. He graduated from IIT-Bombay and then went to Carnegie Mellon for a PhD in electrical engineering. With a net worth of $2.7 billion, Bhatt is a co-founder of no-fee stock trading app Robinhood which went public on Nasdaq in July 2021. He owns around 8% of the company.
